Swine flu statistics and vaccine markets

SWINE FLU RECESS IN SCHOOL IN ANKARA

When swine flu was detected in private Bilkent Laboratuvar elementary school in Ankara, the education in the school was suspended as a precaution. Five people were tested positive for swine flu. Tests of four people are underway.

The minister of Health declared "Hundreds of thousand Turkish citizens may die on swine flu" on the brief news above.

1. Is that true ?
2. Let's assume that it is true. Do we need to panic a whole country of 70 million ?
3. Turkey needs vaccine but no panic. Under panic excess amount of vaccine will be purchased.

Do not forget vaccine is a commodity under free market rules of demand and supply.

I would rather follow real-time statistics on swine flu rather than listening to Mr. Minister of Health. As Turks used to say "His ear does not listen to what his mouth says."
