From Neanderthal to Human Beings. A Journey of 800.000 Years.
Neanderthals are closest relatives of modern humans. They were inhabiting the world about 30,000 years ago and splited from modern humans 800.000 years ago in the family tree. The team of geneticist Svante Pääbo at the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany announced that they had completed a unrefined copy of the genome of Neanderthals. Evolutionary biologists believe that comparing the Neanderthal genome with our own will shed considerable light on the genetic characteristics that gave us “human features” such as intellect, reasoning, memory, language, feelings, instinct of capitalism, sexual dreams, raising chidrenö cheating, lying and the ability to create culture, the ability to create empires.
Cloning a Neanderthal is an option. However should we do that ? What are the ethical legal and social implications ? Some people may think that Neanderthals are not Human beings. Imagine an army of Neanderthals as a pure labor force in factories with no social status, with no health insurance, working for food only. Can anybody stop capitalism from doing that ? What would happen if a Neanderthal falls in love with a human being ?
“Yes” to computer stimulation of Neanderthals based on DNA and “No” to real cloning. I have no idea about the social maturity of Neanderthals. However, I am pretty sure that human beings are NOT mature enough mentally and socially to handle that kind of a situation.
