Do you remember the TV series of 70's, the Roots ? It was based on a real life story of an African-American family. Kunta Kinte was stolen from Africa and brought to America, while fighting for survival. He married his plantation's cook, Bell, and they had a daughter, Kizzy, who was also stolen from them and sold away. Kizzy had a son by her new master, and the boy grew up to become Chicken George, a legendary cock fighter who leads his family into freedom.

Throughout the series, the family observes milestone events, such as the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, slave uprisings, and emancipation on the background of US History.

The story was based on the documentary work done by the grand-grand children of Kunta Kinte on the search of their roots.

As of 2010, if you are interested in your roots, you do not need to go to Africa or to another continent. The start point would be a Google search with your fathers name. Then, you can search your fathers health care records.

As of 2025, my 13 year old son will be plugging in my, my wife's and his genetic information into his hand held device and do a genetic genealogy search on the common genes. He will be seeing which genes he inherited from the father and which genes from the mother. For every gene polymorphism he will get a detailed genealogy report on the origins.
