DNA Based Markers of Disease
DNA is the blue print of the genetic information. Imagine, your genes are special text recipes for proteins. The taste of a dish is based on content of a recipe. Experienced gourmets can even judge a dish based on the recipe alone. As an analogy, it can be determined whether a protein is cancerous or not just based on the genetic blue print information on your DNA alone. DNA based diagnostics is much more reliable than the protein based diagnostics.
DNA-based markers of disease could become a better diagnostic than the present methods, which depend on detecting disease-linked proteins. There is no doubt from a research point of view that this approach has the potential to track patients and diseases better than with the conventional approach.
Now, the scientists can read the DNA-recipe and tell exactly, whether a gene is cooking for a disease protein or for a normal protein.
