Genomics. A Cure for Global Warming ?
The global climate is changing, and this change is already impacting food supply and security. People living in regions already affected by aridity need plants that can thrive / grow under dry conditions. Increasing industrial carbon emissions entrap more solar heat. Heat sensitive plants/algea either go towards extinction or can no longer entrap carbon to reduce the atmospheric carbon levels. This is a negative feedback loop.
1. Can heat resistant genes and carbon entrapping genes be engineered in an environment friendly fashion so that we break this negative feedback-loop ?
2.Can low carbon emission bio-fuels be produced by genetic engineering ?
3.Can rhodopsin based electron-proton pumping biological systems (voltaic biology) be re-engineered for solar electric production ?
I feel positive for all these approaches. The question is a price question. If it is feasible financially they will be on the market.
