Health Care Reform and Health Records

Posted by Gene

Mr. Obama vowed to spend $50 billion over five years to spur the adoption of electronic health records and said recently that a program to accelerate their use would be part of his stimulus package.

Let's sat that your health-care records are on a central database and you gave consent to use it for "data mining" purposes. You have also done the whole genome sequencing test for $ 500 which will be available in less than 5 years. The results including every single letter of your 25.000 genes are on this server too.

On a server of 10.000.000 patients it will only take fraction of a second for the server to dig for information of all the Alzheimer's patients. All the gene variants will be identified till the last DNA letter. Which drug is good for which gene variant, which other drugs could be designed for most common gene variants will be known in a fraction of a second.

Let us do this for the other partially known thousands of diseases and you have at least 100 times more knowledge (Not data because it is already interpreted) than the current biomedical knowledge in the world.

Thanks to Obama advisors of health for investing the $50 billion for health care records. Definitely, this will pay of in less than a decade and is much wiser than any bailing out package.
