DNA Networking

DNA Networking

There are a zillion of new services out there that promise to take social networking to the next level. They are based on matching people through their DNA information. There can be many permutations of services such as dating, family tree, social networking, or just plain health care research and DNA match.

Let's sat that you have a certain SNP on your dopamine gene that affects your mood, your world perception, in other words your psyche. Would you not be interested in knowing others with the very same SNPs on the dopamine gene ? Definitely you have a lot to tell to each other.

Imagine finding a relative you never knew existed because the DNA test you submitted indicated a match with someone halfway across the world! She could be a hot chick! Initially, you have to apply and then send for a test that you pay anywhere from $100 to $2000. The higher cost the test, the more detailed.

Please be patient for another 3-4 years. In the near future whole genome tests will pop up with the same price. Then the industry will be in real business and you can have all sorts of reliable searching, matching, for fun and for health care purposes.

For the time being, I highly recommend new users that just want to get their feet wet with DNA testing and networking opt for the least expensive option to explore if this is something worthwhile. The price of the most sophisticated tests can be a heavy investment for the minute number of the genes analyzed that might not turn out so useful or enjoyable.
